Azerbaijan is among the countries with the highest potential for renewable energy sources, according to Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov, who spoke at the conference titled "The Role of Small and Medium Businesses in the Green Economy," in Baku, organized by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA) with the support of the Ministries of Economy, and Ecology and Natural Resources, Report informs.
"To utilize this potential, significant projects are being implemented in partnership with the world's leading energy companies within the framework of public-private sector cooperation. All these efforts are aimed at achieving the target of increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's total energy balance to 30% by 2030," Minister Jabbarov noted.
The minister specifically highlighted Karabakh and East Zangazur, which have been declared as "green energy" zones.
He underlined that these territories possess high-potential "green energy" sources, with the Fuzuli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan districts showing great promise for solar energy, while the Lachin and Kalbajar districts are highly regarded for their wind and hydroelectric energy potential.
"The government offers incentive mechanisms, concessions, and stimulating measures to encourage the development of businesses in Karabakh," Jabbarov added.
"Increasing SMEs' access to necessary information, knowledge, skills, and potential related to climate change and financing, as well as access to climate finance and technology, eliminating the shortage of qualified personnel, and strengthening international cooperation and exchange of experience will further enhance their role in the green economy."
The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan's SMEs will contribute to the government's economic policy by increasing the application of "green technologies," while also enhancing their own competitiveness and profitability.
"As the green economy is a comprehensive issue, the joint activity of all relevant government agencies, businesses, associations, academic circles, and the public is crucial. The purpose of the conference is to bring together numerous interested parties to exchange views on the topic and unite our efforts," Jabbarov stressed.
