The expansion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line in Georgia will be completed by the end of this year, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said at the II Baku Forum on "Sustainable finance and investment" in Baku, XQ informs.

According to him, the full implementation of this project shows that Azerbaijan plays an important role in international transport corridors:

"Located at the intersection of East-West and North-South international transport corridors, Azerbaijan acts as the initiator of a number of strategic transport projects. The BTK railway was built with the financial support of our country and put into operation in 2017. Another important project is the Baku International Sea Trade Port. Alat Free Economic Zone, which is located next to this port and has modern infrastructure, will attract local and foreign investors, organize the production of high-value-added, export-oriented products and services, expand Azerbaijan's transit opportunities, and increase cargo transportation. Our socio-economic development strategy also envisages the transformation of our country into a regional hub and e-commerce center."
