Manchester City secured the signing of Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez until 2029, in a deal worth 60 million euros, matching the player's buyout clause but with a different payment structure, according to BeSoccer.

The transfer, which was completed on the deadline day of the January transfer window, will allow City to strengthen their midfield under Pep Guardiola.

The deal's structure has been carefully negotiated, allowing City to avoid paying the full fee up front. Interestingly, Porto will be obliged to pay 40% of the transfer fee - around 24 million euros - to Barcelona, who reserved a significant sell-on clause for their academy player.

Gonzalez, a 23-year-old Spanish midfielder, is a perfect fit for Guardiola's system and European football expert Kevin Hatchard said: "It's an absolute fit, he could do a really good job for them. Pep Guardiola has been an admirer of him for some time, City have been as well."

The signing comes at a crucial time for City, who have struggled defensively in recent games, as evidenced by their 5-1 defeat to Arsenal. The Spaniard will have a tough task as his arrival among other things is to replace the Sky Blues' key player, Ballon d'Or winner Rodri.
