The opening ceremony of the V World Nomad Games in Astana, unlike the start of the Olympic Games in Paris, took place in a spirit of respect for the traditions and cultures of various peoples, according to Alekper Alafsarov, the senior coach of Azerbaijan's freestyle wrestling team.

"I really enjoyed the opening ceremony of the V Nomad Games; it was grandiose," Alafsarov told Report's Kazakhstan bureau. "In Paris, at the opening of the Olympic Games, there were some elements that did not correspond to our traditions and were unacceptable to our moral principles. The opening ceremony of the V Nomad Games in Astana was better, in the spirit of traditions and respect for cultural values."

The V World Nomad Games kicked off on September 8 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The event brings together representatives from all Turkic states and communities, as well as teams from other countries. The motto of this year's games is "Meeting in the Great Steppe."

Over the course of a week until September 14, around 4,000 participants from more than 100 countries and over 100,000 tourists will take part in competitions featuring national sports of nomadic peoples. Azerbaijan has sent a delegation of 50 athletes to participate in the Games.
