President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez shared his thoughts on social media platform X saying “Alfonso's statement, who won by only a few points over Julio Cesar La Cruz, is sincere, honorable and impressive. It is commendable that he respects his country that raised him. Cuba rejoices in his victory, although he represents brotherly Azerbaijan."
Alfonso Dominguez defeated the two-time Olympic champion with a score of 3:2 (29:28, 28:29, 29:28, 27:30, 29:28).
