Formula 1 has announced the six races that will feature sprint weekends in the 2025 season: The Grands Prix in Shanghai (China), Miami (USA), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Austin (USA), Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Doha (Qatar) will use the sprint format next year.

This means that Formula 1 is basically sticking to the previous venues, with one exception. Instead of Austria, Belgium will return to the sprint calendar after a one-year break. All other weekends will also be held with a sprint race in 2024.

Brazil continues its run and is the only place where a sprint race has taken place every year since the introduction of sprint races for the 2021 Formula 1 season. 2025 will therefore be the fifth sprint event in Sao Paulo.

For the third time in a row, Austin and Qatar are among the hosts. For Austria, it would have been the fourth sprint, but instead of Spielberg, the additional race will be held in Spa-Francorchamps, where the sprint already took place in 2023.

There will therefore not be a completely new venue for the sprint, as this will also be the second time for Shanghai and Miami after 2024. However, Shanghai will move to the second calendar slot after Melbourne in 2025, so there will be a sprint relatively early in the year.

As things stand, there are no plans to make any changes to the current format. Before this season, the FIA ​​changed the schedule and moved the sprint from Saturday afternoon to Saturday morning so that regular qualifying could take place in its original place again.

Previously, it had already been held on Friday afternoon, but this year the sprint qualifying takes place there, so that the sprint event is no longer decoupled from the rest of the weekend on one day.

The parc ferme rule has also been adjusted so that changes to the set-up are possible again after the sprint. This format will be retained in 2025.
