Bayer Leverkusen beat Union Berlin to go 16 points clear in Bundesliga

Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday secured a narrow win over Union Berlin to clear 16 points over their closest competitors in the Bundesliga standings, according to Anadolu Agency.

Florian Wirtz scored the winner in a penalty after minute 45 at the Alte Forsterei stadium as Leverkusen edged closer to their first league title.

The goal came after Robin Gosens of Union Berlin received a red card, bringing the team down to 10 men.

In another week-28 game, Bayern Munich suffered a comeback loss against Heidenheim 3-2 in an away game.

Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry scored for the Bavarians, while Kevin Sessa and Tim Kleindienst (2) netted for the winning side at the Voith-Arena.

Bayer Leverkusen are top of the table with 76 points, while are second Bayern Munich with 60 points and Stuttgart third with 57 points with a game in hand.

Bayer Leverkusen will have the chance to secure their first ever top-tier title in the Bundesliga when they host Werder Bremen at BayArena next week.
