The number of UN employees killed so far in the Gaza war has risen to 79, five of them killed within 48 hours, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced, XQ informs via the German Press Agency (dpa).
At least 24 others have been injured, it said.
Like most of the inhabitants of the coastal strip, UN employees were also displaced along with their families. They continue to work tirelessly to provide humanitarian aid, UNRWA said.
In the densely populated coastal strip, where around 2.2 million people live, the humanitarian situation remains devastating. Almost 1.5 million people have been displaced since the war began. Half of them are being held in around 150 UN centres. Most of them are hopelessly overcrowded.
